Reflexology

One of the most popular holistic treatments, reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet (or the hands). Pressure applied to the feet is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body - very much like acupuncture.

Reflexologists apply pressure to specific areas of the feet which correspond to different organs, systems, and areas of the body - this helps free energy thereby aiding the body's self-healing process. It can often be combined with other therapies and may be offered by chiropractors and physical therapists, among others.

Several studies indicate that it can help reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as stress and anxiety, and enhance relaxation and sleep. It also is effective at improving nerve function and blood supply throughout the body's circulatory systems.

Many people with conditions such as allergies, chronic sinus problems, migraines, anxiety, depression, back pain, headaches, arthritis, digestion problems, insomnia, asthma, PMS and period pain - to name but a few - have been helped tremendously.

It helps flush out toxins from the body by stimulating the energy flow through the important organs that are involved in detoxification including the liver, kidney, colon, lungs, and skin. The benefits of reflexology are innumerable and periodic detoxing is vital if our bodies are to function properly.

The stress response from daily life can leave us on almost constant high alert and this changes the physiology and functioning of the systems in our body. This means that we are not performing at our best mentally and physically, and over time this can lead to more serious health problems. Managing our stress levels is a major factor in managing and supporting our health.

However, in general, the results are often subtle and cumulative. Thus, you are more likely to see greater benefits from regular sessions for example, once a week for six weeks. Then once a month maintenance rather than having one session every six months.
